Let's get the conversation going! Here are a couple of "Would You Rather" questions:

Let's Dive Into John 1:6-8, 19-28!

READ: Let's read the story for today!

Let's Dive Into John 1:6-8, 19-28!

ASK: Let's talk about it together!

Why do you think it was important for John the Baptist to be clear about who he wasn't, before explaining who he was?
What does it mean to "testify about the Light" instead of trying to be the light yourself?
John calls himself "a voice calling in the wilderness" — what do you think that phrase means, and why is it a fitting way to describe his role?
Can you think of a time when you pointed someone else toward Jesus instead of trying to get attention for yourself?

ACTIVITY: Let's jump into this Outdoor (or, Indoor) Challenge!

Wait until dusk or evening and head outside with a flashlight or lantern for each family member. Take turns being "the voice in the wilderness" by shining your light toward another family member and calling out something true and good about Jesus, like "He is the Light of the World!" Afterward, talk about how John's job wasn't to be the light, but to point to it, and think of one way each person can point others toward Jesus this week.

Let's close in prayer! Use this one, or say your own together.

Dear God, help us to be like John — pointing others to Jesus instead of seeking attention for ourselves. Amen.
