Let's get the conversation going! Here are a couple of "Would You Rather" questions:
Let's Dive Into Mark 1:1-8!

READ: Let's read the story for today!
Let's Dive Into Mark 1:1-8!

ASK: Let's talk about it together!
Why do you think John the Baptist lived and dressed so differently from other religious leaders of his time?
What do you think it means to "prepare the way" for someone, and how did John do that for Jesus?
John says he isn't even worthy to untie Jesus's sandals — why do you think he was so humble about his own role?
What's the difference between being baptized with water and being baptized with the Holy Spirit, as John describes?

ACTIVITY: Let's jump into this Outdoor (or, Indoor) Challenge!
Head outside to a creek, stream, or even just with a bucket of water in the yard, and talk about what baptism symbolizes — washing away and starting fresh. Take turns dipping your hands in the water and naming one thing each person wants to "clean out" or let go of in their own life, as a simple picture of repentance. Finish by talking about who in your own life "prepares the way" for you to know Jesus better, like John did for others.
Let's close in prayer! Use this one, or say your own together.
Dear God, prepare our hearts to make room for Jesus, and help us live with humility like John the Baptist. Amen.
