Let's get the conversation going! Here are a couple of "Would You Rather" questions:

Let's Dive Into Mark 8:31-38!

READ: Let's read the story for today!

Let's Dive Into Mark 8:31-38!

ASK: Let's talk about it together!

Why do you think Peter reacted so strongly when Jesus talked about suffering and dying?
What do you think Jesus means when He says to "deny yourself and take up your cross" to follow Him?
Jesus asks what good it is to gain the whole world but lose your soul. What do you think that means in everyday terms?
Is there something in your own life that's hard to "let go of" in order to follow Jesus more closely?

ACTIVITY: Let's jump into this Outdoor (or, Indoor) Challenge!

Go outside and have each family member find or make a small "cross" out of two sticks, tying or holding them together. Take turns carrying your cross on a short walk around the yard or block, talking about how it might have felt for Jesus to carry His, and what it means for us to "carry our cross" in smaller, everyday ways, like being patient, honest, or kind when it's hard. Finish by setting the crosses somewhere visible outside, like propped against a fence or planted in the ground, as a reminder throughout the week.

Let's close in prayer! Use this one, or say your own together.

Dear God, give us courage to deny ourselves and follow Jesus faithfully, even when it costs us something. Amen.
